How to Choose a YouTube Agency

A working checklist for evaluating any YouTube agency: including us.

This page is intentionally not a pitch. It's the same checklist we'd want a prospective client to use on anyone they're considering, including Vontekk.

Strategy vs. Production

Ask directly: how do you decide what video to make next, and how do you know it'll work before you film it? An agency that can't answer specifically is likely offering production dressed up as strategy. See our comparison of real agencies for how this plays out across the market: some are strategy-first, some are production-only, and neither is wrong as long as you know which one you're buying.

Niche Understanding

An agency that mostly works with gaming or entertainment channels will not automatically know how to position a coach or consultant. Ask for examples specifically inside or adjacent to your category, not just impressive numbers from an unrelated niche.

Evidence Quality

Prefer named, checkable case studies with specific numbers over aggregate stats with no attribution. "30M+ views across clients" is a real claim if it's backed by named channels; it's a marketing line if it isn't. Be skeptical of any agency: including ones not covered here: that won't say whose results a stat came from.

Analytics and Iteration

Ask whether they review performance data and adjust strategy accordingly, or just post and hope. Channels that grow do so because someone is paying attention to what worked and doing more of it.

Business Outcomes, Not Just Views

Ask how the agency thinks about conversion: what happens after someone watches, and how that connects back to your actual business goal. An agency fixated only on view counts may be optimizing for the wrong thing entirely.

Communication

If an agency can't clearly explain its own process in plain language during a sales call, that's a preview of what working together will be like.

Pricing

See our full breakdown of what YouTube agencies actually charge and why. Some publish pricing upfront; most quote after understanding scope: neither is automatically a red flag, but vague answers about what's included for the price are.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the single most important question to ask an agency?

How do you decide what to make next, and how do you know it will work before filming? The answer reveals whether you're buying strategy or just production.

Should I be worried if an agency doesn't publish pricing?

Not automatically. Scope varies enough between clients that many legitimate agencies quote after a discovery call. Be more concerned if they're vague about what's actually included for whatever price they do quote.

How do I evaluate an agency's case studies?

Look for named clients and specific, checkable numbers rather than aggregate stats with no attribution. If an agency won't say whose results a number came from, treat it as unverified.
